Brain Navigator combines EEG and MR/CT images in a single integrated display

Brain Navigator is a PC-based system capable of combining EEG and MR/CT images to provide high-resolution anatomical localization of functional and neurophysiological data.

The Brain Navigator software package is especially useful to neurologists and neurosurgeons interested in analyzing and localizing the sources of epileptiform activity in epilepsy patients. Brain Navigator automates work that traditionally has been done by manually correlating and analyzing MRI, EEG, maps of electrode locations, and lists of electrode names.

Brain Navigator provides:

  • Accurate localization of intracranial electrode contacts with respect to brain anatomy
  • Fiducial-free and landmark-free registration module, based on the Maximization of Mutual Information
  • Automatic segmentation of brain tissue out of the T1 MRI image
  • Volume rendering of the scalp/skull/cortex surfaces in order to provide 3D visualization of the localized electrodes in relation to brain anatomy
  • Direct measurements of scalp electrode positions by using a hand-held 3-D electromagnetic digitizer
  • Software tools for analysis of SPECT (Single Positron Emission Computed Tomography) scans in patients with medically intractable epilepsy
